By the way...

What did people think of HBP? Any huge shocks? theories/thoughts vindicated? Anyone cry? Laugh? Get the urge to throw book at all and walk away for a while?

(I'm sure there'll be spoilers in the comments.. maybe if comments arise...)

I was prepared to launch it against the wall before reading but was pleasantly surprised! *grin*

which you already know, seeing as we already talked about it this weekend. ;-)

Through Harry's first few stunts (like the train) I whacked it against my head coz I could see the disaster coming a mile away! Stupid Gryffindors *mutters*

Shocks? Dude, SNAPE. I thought he might have killed Dumbledore after making the vow and realising what Draco was doing, but being the Half-Blood Prince? NO FRIGGIN' IDEA.

(Heyyy, three main spoilers in one sentance! XD)

And yep, I cried... both times I read it. I'm too soft.

nice sentence!
omg snape is stil the good guy though. what's the bet dumbledore and he had a conversation via legilimency or a prior arrangement.. remember that argument hagrid said they had? and i honestly believe snape loved lily. d'you think they might've been potions partners, and some of the notes in his ook may have been hers... but then, i guess, i, like slughorn, think everyone who knew her loved her...

My poor friends' page has been overloaded with HBP responses! All of them added together would no doubt be longer than the book itself. :D

I was pretty spoiled before reading it, so no great shocks. I'm very excited for the next book, though. I liked how Voldemort is the one who had cursed the DADA position, and I liked that R.A.B. has more of a story than just Sirius' brother who died. (I'm pretty sure it's Regulus, but who knows.)

YES. Totally Regulus Black. I was hoping that I wasnt the only one who would think about that!

seems to be the going theory all over the place...

July 19 2005, 08:41:17 UTC 6 years ago

aww.. poor flist...

hm i wasn't spoilt but i was expecting Dumdbledore to die in this book... it fits the mythos of the books.. Harry has to be alone to tbe The chosen One (snickers and thinks of buffy) -- and yes i like that too -- well in an interview JKR saidosmehitng along the lines of: i left a mystery at the end but i think it will e quickly solved.. so i suspect it's Regulus (apart from all the other clues eg unopenable locket in Grimmauld Place) cause he's the most obvious RB to think of and we know he had an Uncle alphard, cause Sirius did...

I am so psyched that I didn't hear any of the spoilers until after I'd finished the book. I really thought Snape was going to redeem himself. I actually still think she's going to have him redeem himself at the last, but I'm an eternal optimist.

I haven't been this emotionally invested in a fictional series since Gaiman's Sandman.

see,, i tried my bet not to look at the last page this time round, I have a bad tendency to always read the last age first.. so i was proud of myself for not.. can't say i was surprised that Dumbledore died... i thought he wouldm but it still shocked me.. if that's not a contradiction... worked out who the HBP was before it was revealed.... i think Snape killed Dumbledore cause he had to.. not just cause of the Vow to Narcissa, but remember the argument Hgrid overheard between Snape and Dumbledore? I think Dumbledore had to die/be killed to create some ancient magic... makes me think of the phoenix that came out of his chest just before the tomb was created too.. wonder how people will find out Snape is still good? or as good as ever? i feel so badly for Snape.. and Draco ... invidious position... and Draco's just lost his innocence...

I just finished reading. Would havent finished earlier if I didnt have to sleep and work. And OMG. I cried so bad. Seriously. I ran out of tissues and toilet paper. And im going to try not to cause any spoilers... but I used to be SO in love with the Half Blood Prince. And Draco. But now.. I dunno. I think I want to kick their asses. Hard.

[info]spherissa

July 19 2005, 08:48:35 UTC 6 years ago

i stayd up all night reading.. even though i'd only had 4 hours sleep. oops. i felt so badly for Draco, no really, i just want someone to tell him, that there are other ways to win, and i loved that Narcissa loves him so much as to go to Snape even when it's against the Dark Lord's wishes... ohh.. i don't think Snape did wrong.. i think.. he had to do it, i think Dumbledore wanted him to do it, think of the argument hagrid overheard, and i think it was done to give an added protection to harry.. i think Dumbledore was doomed from the time of destroying the first Horcrux.. i dont want to kick Draco's ass, he was doing what he did to help his family, and bear in mind all through the books he's been so proud to be lucius' son, i think if he'd done a complete about face at the beginning it would have been VERY ooc... and he's crying in the bathroom with only myrtle for company and aid? and all on his own he figures out a way to ebing the Des into Hogwarts.. poor, poor boy. really.

Well, I can't claim to have read every word of it yet. The biggest shock was Dumbledore; for once I totally failed to see that coming. No, I didn't cry... I just went numb at first. {lop-sided smile}

I've recovered enough to really want to see Uncle Vernon's reaction to the house guests that it looks like he's getting.... {chuckle, SMILE}

i kind of expected Dumbledore to die, it fits the mythos and the whole pattern of the books, harry... can't be overshadowed by a Greater Wizard...

*giggles* now There's somehting to look forward to..

I never bought into that "had to die" business for mentors. There are so many other ways and reasons to cut apron strings. {SMILE} I guess that attitude makes a pretty big blind spot for me. {Chuckle, SMILE}

Yes, exactly! He's thrown such impressive fits before... and I expect this one will be right up there. Maybe even at the top. {Chuckle, SMILE, REALLY BIG GRIN, HUMONGOUS GRIN}
